Figures

Figures is a series of portraits that explores our preconceived ideas of how the sitter is traditionally viewed in portraiture. This series retains the anonymity of the figure by only depicting the subjects back, denying them the obvious face-on information we often rely on to discover the sitter, and encouraging curiosity about the subject with a nuanced framing of portraiture. What narrative do we form? What questions arise and assumptions do we make about the subject when we are given limited information and denied the known subject we expect?
