Matriarch

Matriarch’ is an ode to the women whom are the roots of our families, whom keep us grounded, remind us from where we came and provide the vital nutrients that allows us to flower and grow. Specifically, Matriarch is a visual love letter to my yiayia, Athena Marangelis.This diptych created in my final high school year holds a significant place in my heart in that it would go on to inspire many of my future works with its references to classical Western European portraiture, visually prominent symbolic use of flora and the post-impressionistic influence in my use of colour that has only continued to grow.
